The Jaguar
The jaguar is a cat, but not a pet, being at the top of the Amazon food chain. Jaguar babies stay with their mother for a few years. Within 3 years, the baby jaguar is ready to mate. With its advanced hunting and camaflauge, jaguars can catch and eat a small alligator. Though jaguars have been spotted in the US, they mainly live Mexico and South America.

How to Survive In the Amazon
It is tough to survive in the Amazon. Here are some ways natives survive in the Amazon.
1. Live by rivers. You can always get water from the river, and you can go fishing.
2. Find and get food. You can hunt, fish, and find the plants and animals of the rain forest.
3. Make tools and supplies. You'll need to make weapons and canoes to get food and more.
4. Don't get sick. Be careful, besides the medicinal plants around you, you can't just walk to the doctor's office.
5. Prepare for storms. Build strong shelters a few feet off the ground in case of floods.

The canapy layer of the rain forest can sometimes reach heights of 100 feet! How can an animal live up there? Animals use special ways to get branch to branch. The most succesful snakes ever live in the canapy by slithering across the branches. Tree frogs live in the canapy by using its sticky suckers to stick to trees.
